February 11 Notable and Calendar


Four-timers: Three area wrestlers won their fourth conference titles over the weekend. Burlington senior Ben Hornickle defeated Elkhorn sophomore Riley Remington by a 13-0 major decision to win the 138 title at the Southern Lakes Conference meet. Hornickle won the league’s 106 title in 2012, the 113 title in 2013 and the 126 title in 2014. Cedarburg senior Jason Ipsarides defeated Homestead senior Connor Scholtus by a 10-2 major decision to win the 152 title at the North Shore Conference meet. Ipsarides won the 132 title in 2012, the 138 title in 2013 and the 145 title a year ago. West Bend East senior Jordan Gundrum won the 160 title by pinning Oconomowoc senior Nathan Haines in the final in 1:51 at the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference meet. Gundrum won the 126 title in 2012, the 145 title in 2013 and the 160 title a year ago.

Division 1

            At Manitowoc, 10 a.m.: State No. 1-ranked Kaukauna, the Division 1 defending team champion, is favored to win the team title.

            At Beaver Dam, 10 a.m.: Hartford junior Beau Breske – the two-time defending Division 1 state champion and area’s top wrestler – begins his quest for a third state individual title.

            At Stoughton, 9:30 a.m.: Stoughton, ranked No. 3 in the state, has already defeated Elkhorn, the area’s No. 2-ranked team, twice this year and is favored to win the team regional title.

            At Wilmot, 10:30 a.m.: Milton, ranked No. 2 in Division 1, is favored to advance to the team sectional.

            At Waukesha South, 9:30 a.m.: Area No. 5 Pewaukee is in the Division 1 field for the first time and a heavy favorite to win the team regional title.

            At West Allis Central, 10 a.m.: Area No. 8 West Allis Central and area No. 7 Whitnall-Greendale vie for a shot at Pewaukee in the team sectional final.

            At Cedarburg, 9:30 a.m.: Area No. 3 Cedarburg failed to advance to the team sectional final a year ago. That shouldn’t happen this year as the Bulldogs have the most solid lineup in the regional.

            At Nicolet, 10:30 a.m.: This should be a two-team race between area No. 9 Wauwatosa and Whitefish Bay.

            At Racine Case, 9:30 a.m.: Area No. 1 Burlington is favored to win the team regional title.

            At Milwaukee Hamilton, 10 a.m.: Area No. 4 Oak Creek is favored to win the regional and get another shot at Burlington in the team sectional final.

Division 2

            At East Troy, 10:15 a.m.: Area No. 6 Wisconsin Lutheran is the top Division 2 team in the area and should win the regional. East Troy will challenge.

              At Lomira, 10 a.m.: Grafton, Kettle Moraine Lutheran and Kewaskum all have a shot at the team title.

Division 3

            At Dodgeland, 10:30 a.m.: Lake Country Lutheran and St. John’s Northwestern/Military to attend.

            At Kenosha Christian Life, 10:45 a.m.: Kenosha Christian Life should be in the mix for the team title.
