February 8 Pewaukee Bumps W/G in Woodland

Injuries played a role in the outcome of the Woodland Conference tournament but it was the Pewaukee Pirates who managed to overcome the loss of 285-pounder and win the league title by scoring 256 points.

Pewaukee sent nine wrestlers to the finals and picked up six champions in denying Whitnall/Greendale a sweep of the conference titles thanks to a strong performance from the Pirates’ upper weights.

Whitnall/Greendale sent seven wrestlers to the finals but finished with only one champion and settled for second place with 230 points. Wauwatosa finished third with 204.5 points.

Both teams were missing starters, but Pewaukee really picked up for the slack in the upper weights as the Pirates moved wrestlers up beginning at 160. Senior Jason Berg (160), sophomore Jacob Raschka (182), senior Christian Dischler (220) and sophomore Blaze Beltran (285) all picked up titles wrestling up a weight class.

Pewaukee’s other champions were sophomore Jacob Duncan (120) and senior Isaac Lodise (138).

Whitnall/Greendale didn’t have as much luck with the weight shift as only sophomore Nathan Hensley (113) was able to win a tournament title. Six other W/G wrestlers finished second.

Pewaukee finished ahead of W/G in the weight class standings in nine of the 14 weight classes.

Raschka won his second title after winning the 152 title a year ago. Wauwatosa senior Ben Reagan won the 145 title for his third. Reagan won the 120 title in 2013 and the 138 title a year ago. Tosa senior Marcus Morrow won his second title by winning the 152 crown. He won the 145 title a year ago.
